Google’s revived nuclear power plant gets $1.9B loan from US government

Google backed the restart of Iowa's Duane Arnold nuclear power plant through a $1.9 billion Department of Energy loan to NextEra Energy, part of a broader trend where tech companies are reviving shuttered reactors to power their AI data centers. The facility, offline since 2020, is expected to restart in 2029 and generate 615 megawatts, with similar deals involving Microsoft and Meta at other nuclear sites.
