California is testing solar panels built over irrigation canals to address water evaporation and generate clean energy simultaneously. Project Nexus, a pilot by Solar Aquagrid partnered with UC Merced and Turlock Irrigation District, demonstrates three solar canal designs that could save millions of gallons of water annually while producing hundreds of megawatts of electricity.
