The move follows criticism from 25 Fields Medal winners who warned that AI labs are threatening mathematical work through competitive problem-solving.
The Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, hosted at the Institute for Advanced Study, was created to advise AI companies on their interactions with mathematical research and the responsible presentation of mathematical results. The independent group of nine mathematicians is currently advising OpenAI on coordinating the release of significant mathematical results produced by their AI model.
