In 2011, Australian bartender Dan Saunders discovered an ATM glitch at National Australia Bank that allowed unlimited withdrawals, exploiting a lag between transactions and balance updates to steal AU$1.6 million over four and a half months. After spending the money on luxury goods and experiencing guilt, he turned himself in to police and was sentenced to prison, community service, and a fine.
