Brahms on a period piano? Like watching snooker in black and white

Andras Schiff performs Brahms's late piano works on a period instrument—an 1859 Blüthner piano—recorded at Beethovenhaus Bonn in 2021. While the recording captures the consolatory depth of these pieces, the piano's woody timbre and clipped phrasing create an unusual sonic quality that takes adjustment, somewhat like experiencing familiar content through an unfamiliar medium.
