Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is installing laser-based directed energy systems to defend against drone intrusions into its airspace. The Air Force Research Laboratory-tested system will provide real-time detection and defensive capabilities to protect launch infrastructure and personnel. The spaceport experienced hundreds of unauthorized drone flights last year, making the laser solution preferable to radio jamming that could damage spacecraft.
