    Secret of Orange Cats Finally Revealed After 60-Year Search

    Researchers finally identified the genetic cause of orange fur in cats after 60+ years of mystery: a 5 kilobase DNA deletion in the Arhgap36 gene on the X chromosome. This explains why orange coloring appears differently between sexes, with most orange cats being male while females display patchwork calico or tortoiseshell patterns due to X-chromosome inactivation.
