Valve has integrated Pyrowave, a low-latency video codec designed for in-home game streaming, into the Steam beta client. Developed by Hans-Kristian Arntzen, Pyrowave uses Discrete Wavelet Transforms to achieve significantly lower latency and superior image quality compared to traditional codecs, though it requires 5–10 times more bandwidth.
