Atmospheric researchers are conducting unprecedented studies on hail damage, which costs $50+ billion annually and is expected to worsen with climate change. The ICECHIP field campaign deployed 100 scientists across the Central Plains in spring 2025 to collect comprehensive data on hailstone formation and storm behavior using advanced instruments and analysis techniques.
