Suntory researchers successfully created truly blue roses by inserting genes from multiple blue flower species into pink roses, enabling them to produce both blue pigments and colorless helper molecules that stabilize color. The genetically modified roses maintained their blue hue through seven years of greenhouse testing in Japan and three years of field trials in Colombia.
