Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov made history's first spacewalk in March 1965 aboard Voskhod 2, floating for 10 minutes while his spacesuit deformed in the vacuum. His return nearly proved fatal when he couldn't refit through the airlock and had to manually depressurize his suit while contorting inside, risking oxygen starvation to save himself.
