An analysis of 51,362 paint colors from 34 manufacturers found that 76.7% have a nearly identical match in another brand when measured using the CIELAB color space and CIEDE2000 formula. The study examined published color values rather than actual painted samples, revealing that most paint colors across brands are practically indistinguishable to the human eye, though real-world results depend on base, sheen, and application.
