McDonald's is launching its own media network to display third-party advertising on drive-thru order boards and other locations, following Amazon and Walmart into the high-margin commerce media business. The company aims to eventually generate $1 billion in revenue from the initiative, which targets its 85% annual reach of the U.S. population across 14,000 locations. The pilot began in August at 450 company-owned restaurants and has not yet expanded to franchisees.
