District Six was a multiethnic residential neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa that was declared whites-only in 1966 under apartheid law, resulting in the forcible removal of over 60,000 residents and its renaming to Zonnebloem in 1970. The area remained largely undeveloped until 2019 when the original name was restored following a campaign by the District Six Museum.
