A detailed analysis of 65 DynamoDB point-in-time restore operations found significant unpredictability in restore times, contradicting AWS documentation. The published 20-minute minimum was incorrect by a factor of five, and excluding secondary indexes during restore actually made recovery six to nine times slower, contrary to AWS guidance.
