IBM announced the acquisition of HRL Laboratories, a quantum research institution jointly owned by Boeing and General Motors, to advance its quantum computing capabilities. HRL's expertise in silicon-spin qubit engineering and quantum materials will complement IBM's superconducting qubit technology and accelerate development of fault-tolerant quantum computers, quantum sensing, and quantum networking.
