Researchers found that Earth microbes from deep-sea hydrothermal vents can survive simulated conditions of the ocean beneath Saturn's moon Enceladus, suggesting the distant world may be habitable. The microbes, which convert hydrogen and carbon dioxide into methane, survived in a laboratory-recreated brine mimicking Enceladus's alkaline ocean environment, adding to evidence that life could potentially exist there.
