A community group in Portobello, Edinburgh purchased an abandoned police station and sought help fixing its historic clock tower. The author and a friend successfully reset the clock mechanism and investigated the chime control system, which uses a early-2000s microcontroller to manage the 19th-century timepiece.
The author attended Muni Heritage Weekend 2026 in San Francisco and used a line scan camera to photograph historic trams including the first publicly owned US streetcar (1912), vintage vehicles from Melbourne and Blackpool, and early electric trams.
