Dennis Ritchie, whose father worked on switching circuits at Bell Labs, discovered computing at Harvard and later joined Bell Labs in 1967. He collaborated with Ken Thompson to develop Unix and created the C programming language to overcome limitations of Thompson's B language when porting Unix to the PDP-11, fundamentally shaping modern computing.
