AI21 deployed Kueue, an open-source Kubernetes job queueing system, to manage a shared GPU fleet of ~10,000 GPUs across multiple teams on Google Cloud, achieving an 83% reduction in time-to-start for high-priority workloads. The system replaced manual coordination via messaging channels with automated admission, prioritization, and preemption, reducing manual intervention and improving fairness across teams. The collaboration with Google's Kueue team led to new features like Admission Fair Sharing.
