A new speed record for training NanoGPT was achieved in 39.9 seconds on an RTX 5090, representing a 46% improvement over the previous record through optimizations including sampled-softmax, FP8 quantization, and attention packing. The result was validated across 18 cold-cache runs with statistical significance (p=9.4e-10).
