Apple and LG are developing new HomeKit accessories with NFC-based 'Proximity Control' features that display device controls in iPhone's Dynamic Island when the phone is brought near a compatible device, using the Matter protocol. Apple plans to reveal these and other smart home products at an October 13th 'Welcome home' event.
Apple is co-developing smart home accessories with LG that will feature Proximity Control, allowing iPhones to interact with thermostats, cameras, and doorbells via NFC and Dynamic Island prompts. The accessories will also support setup pairing before devices have power using HomeKit-exclusive NFC technology.
