Propane-based refrigerant (R290) offers a superior alternative to current air conditioning systems, with a global warming potential of 0.02 compared to 2,088 for HFC-410a and 450-700 for newer HFOs, while costing significantly less to produce. Regulatory barriers, particularly the phased approach of the AIM Act, currently prevent Americans from purchasing propane heat pumps despite their environmental and economic advantages.
