AI systems are automating both sides of healthcare prior-authorization disputes—providers use AI to submit requests while payers use AI to deny them—but this accelerates the administrative arms race rather than solving the underlying misalignment between provider and payer systems. New regulatory requirements, interoperable data standards, and agentic AI create an opportunity to use AI to coordinate information upstream and prevent denials rather than just processing them faster.
