Chinese researchers detected unusual and intensifying seismic activity at North Korea's Mount Mantap nuclear test site years after underground detonations ceased between 2006 and 2017. Analysis of 1,399 earthquakes from 2008 to 2025 suggests repeated nuclear explosions reactivated faults and altered the region's crustal stress, causing persistent earthquake sequences that are difficult to distinguish from natural tectonic activity.
