Alexandria Eschate was a city founded by Alexander the Great in 329 BC at the southwestern end of the Fergana Valley (modern Tajikistan), serving as his northernmost Central Asian outpost. Built on the site of the Persian city Cyropolis along the Jaxartes River, it was established after Alexander's forces besieged and conquered the region to secure Sogdiana. The city retained Greek culture and language for centuries after its founding.
