The Proba-3 Coronagraph spacecraft experienced an anomaly in February caused by two nearly simultaneous events that locked a software semaphore, preventing reaction wheel desaturation and causing loss of spacecraft orientation. The rare timing condition went undetected during testing and occurred during autonomous operations when no personnel were present at mission control.
NASA has shut down Voyager 1's Low-Energy Charged Particle sensor after 49 years of operation to conserve power as the spacecraft's plutonium generators degrade. Located 15 billion miles from Earth, the spacecraft loses about four watts annually, and this shutdown is expected to extend its mission by at least one more year while two other science instruments remain active.
