Meta announced plans to build Petal, a new subsea cable connecting France and the United States with 1 petabit per second bandwidth, using advanced dual-core fiber technology. The cable, expected to enter service in 2029 and built in partnership with NEC and Sumitomo Electric Industries, will surpass Meta's existing Anjana cable and provide sufficient capacity for 75% of the global population to stream music simultaneously.
Meta announced Petal, the first transoceanic subsea cable delivering petabit-class capacity, connecting France and the United States over 7,000 km and entering service in 2029.
