A Transport & Environment study finds that planned expansions at twenty of Europe's largest airports will exceed their fair-share carbon budgets by two to three times, making them incompatible with climate targets even when accounting for sustainable aviation fuel and more efficient aircraft. Major cities including London, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, and Dublin are pursuing expansions that will exhaust Europe's remaining carbon budget by 2033, with Portugal and Spain facing the largest overshoots.
