someone building in DeFi shouldn’t have the same profile as someone contributing to AI, gaming, NFTs or RWA.
that context matters.
Nucleus breaks network reputation into different areas instead of forcing every kind of contribution into one generic score.
and that can make rankings more useful for discovery.
not just:
who is ranked highest?
but:
highest for what?
because relevance changes depending on the opportunity.
if Web3 keeps creating more specialized ecosystems, knowing where someone has actually built signal becomes more useful than knowing how much attention they have overall.

That line from Muriel Medard’s interview captures a key difference between traditional finance and decentralized networks.
In TradFi, reducing latency can mean physically moving closer to an exchange, colocating servers, or building direct fiber connections. DeFi cannot rely on the same model. Validators are distributed across different locations, and the path data takes through the network can change constantly.
Instead of bringing every participant physically closer together, Optimum focuses on making data move more efficiently across the network through RLNC-based propagation.
Data can be encoded into different combinations, allowing nodes to forward and recode what they receive before the full message arrives.
For Muriel, this also challenges the idea that decentralization necessarily comes with a performance cost.
The interesting part of the interview is how she connects the mathematics behind RLNC with a very practical problem in financial markets: how do you make distributed infrastructure behave more efficiently without turning it into a centralized system?
