# "GPU demand" — X 热门讨论 (2026-09-23 16:40 UTC)

## @shadeformai (Shadeform) · 09-23 15:58 · ♥47 ↻3 💬1 What’s driving price hikes in older generations of GPUs?

It comes down to 3 main factors.

1. Many AI workloads don’t need the newest chips.

H100s and in some cases A100s still can still handle a significant portion of fine-tuning, inference, embedding, and other workloads.

2. Near-term Blackwell capacity is exceptionally difficult to secure.

Blackwell deployments on a < 8 week lead time are scarce and highly competitive. In our experience, near-term Blackwell capacity gets locked in within days of hitting the market, often before most companies know it exists. The result is near-term GPU demand spilling over into older generations that are less competitive.

3. Nobody is giving their H100s back.

NVIDIA isn’t making new ones, so supply is fixed. Teams with capacity are holding onto it, and some are renewing H100 contracts at a more expensive rate than they signed two to three years ago.

We’re keeping an eye on Rubin interest as slated deployment dates get closer. Spreading demand across Blackwell and Rubin should give us more relief heading into 2027. https://x.com/shadeformai/status/2102789812495569239
