TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung aims to bring its precision-machinery and metalworking industries into higher-value semiconductor work through the development of Baipu Industrial Park.
Over 20 semiconductor supply-chain companies are expected to send representatives to the park’s groundbreaking on Monday (Sept. 21), per CNA.
Economic Development Bureau Director-General Liao Tai-hsiang (廖泰翔) described Baipu as an important next step for southern Taiwan’s semiconductor S Corridor, according to the report. The city’s emerging cluster includes advanced packaging and testing in Renwu, key components and materials in Qiaotou, and advanced chipmaking in Nanzi, he said.
Advanced semiconductor back-end processing equipment manufacturers and related suppliers will be the main recruitment targets for 25 hectares. That allocation forms part of roughly 53 hectares of industrial land within the 88.73-hectare site.
Smart testing would accompany technology research, development, and validation aimed at improving companies’ technical capabilities. The bureau plans to bring researchers, industry customers, and the park together to strengthen semiconductor supply-chain links.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs greenlit the project on March 17.
