The newest Windows 11 version 26H2 update has begun rolling out to millions of users worldwide, with some of them commenting that the latest iteration has introduced some optimizations regarding memory usage. Unfortunately, if you only have 8GB of RAM installed, then you’re probably excluded.

The latest Windows 11 26H2 update can reduce RAM usage by as much as 2GB, but that’s only for systems with higher-than-standard configurations

It appears that Microsoft hasn’t quite stuck with its promises of making Windows 11 more memory efficient for systems equipped with 8GB of memory. On Reddit, user “shutter_singh” has shown that RAM usage has decreased by 2GB after installing the latest update, but here’s the catch. If you look at the post below, his system is equipped with 48GB RAM, so it’s highly unlikely that a 2GB reduction will make or break his Windows 11 experience.

On the flipside, another Redditor with the handle “HenryDaGodzilla,” says that there was no change in the RAM usage after updating to version 26H2, and that’s probably because he’s using a Windows 11 system equipped with 8GB RAM instead of 48GB, with the former consuming a whopping 96 percent (7.4GB) of total system memory. On X, @SoyITPro notes that with the same update, his RAM consumption reduced from 9.1GB to 7.5GB.

However, he shares his Task Manager screenshot, revealing that he’s running 32GB of RAM, making it two instances where the Windows 11 26H2 update is benefiting systems with a higher memory count. Looking at these differences, it’s clear that Microsoft has the right approach when it comes to optimizing Windows 11, but the company should be laser-focused on ensuring that 8GB computers can run the operating system fluidly.

We understand that it’s far from an easy journey, but it needs to start somewhere. Has anyone with 8GB RAM in their Windows 11 system witnessed a reduction in memory usage after the 26H2 update? Let us know in the comments.
