Robinhood has already tokenized more than 190 U.S. stocks for offshore markets and reportedly has more than 900,000 non-US buyers.
In theory, as platforms such as Robinhood acquire and hold the underlying shares backing tokenized stocks, they could accumulate significant voting power in those companies.
At sufficient ownership levels, those voting rights could potentially influence corporate governance and, depending on the circumstances, board representation and control.
Many companies may not want intermediaries controlling large amounts of voting power attached to their shares.
Companies may soon start tokenizing their own stocks after the new SEC exemption, and this is very obvious according to multiple Wall Street experts.
That makes voting rights for tokenized stocks an increasingly important issue.
The Prism Shareholder Voting Rights Registry is a system for identifying and verifying the rights attached to tokenized shares and build a decentralized governance model around it.
It records whether a token provides economic rights, voting rights, dividend rights, redemption rights, and access to corporate actions such as mergers, stock splits, and shareholder votes.
