So let me help you guys out, even though you didn't ask for it

Now imagine there's $10 million inside a safe and one guy has the only key.

So what happens when that guy gets hacked ?

Yep, Boom 💥

Everything is gone

So instead, you give the keys to 5 different people.

But there's a rule: At least 3 people must agree before the safe opens.

Now even if one person gets hacked

The attacker still can't open the safe.

That's a Multisig.

Multisig = Multi-Signature.

It means a wallet can require multiple people to approve a transaction before it goes through.

For example:

3-of-5 Multisig

means:

- @madamayo_ - @Oseken4 - @marryahh_ - @EmcryptOnchain_ - @Lucky_of_Web3

Any 3 of them must sign before a transaction goes through

Now let's say Ryahh wants to buy a lambo and sends:

"Let's transfer $2M from the treasury."

Ayo signs Lucky signs

That's only 2/5.

So the transaction can't go through, but when Emcrypt signs, that's 3/5.

Now it can execute.

Why is this useful?

Because you don't have to trust one person with the entire treasury.

One compromised key isn't enough One person going rogue isn't enough. One person making a crazy mistake isn't enough.

You need multiple people to agree

Common Misconception

People sometimes think:

"Multisig means multiple wallets share the same private key."

No.

Each signer has their own separate key.

The wallet simply requires a certain number of those signers to approve a transaction.

In One Sentence

A Multisig wallet is a wallet that requires multiple signatures before a transaction can be executed.

Basically:

One key can open a door. Multiple keys can protect a treasury. https://x.com/MR_DY0R_Of_Web3/status/2095083019895701544
