picked up some U on BNB Chain and shielded 10 U into eU
one thing that clicked pretty quickly: “private” here doesn’t mean the transaction disappears from the chain
the shield itself is public
you can literally see my 10 $U moving into the Primus contract on BscScan
the interesting part starts after that
$U is the normal public asset, while eU is its encrypted version
the idea is that once you’re on the eU side, things like balances, transfer amounts and DeFi positions don’t have to sit there as public numbers while the asset can still be used onchain
so the chain is still public
settlement is still onchain
but every detail of your financial activity doesn’t have to be
with a small amount this might not feel that important, but it makes a lot more sense once you think about serious size
does a fund, a company or even a large wallet really need everyone watching exactly how much they hold, move or deploy into a position just because they’re using a public chain?
that’s where confidential finance starts making sense to me
keep the verifiability of a public blockchain without leaving all the sensitive financial data out in the open
so far i’ve only tested the shielding side
next i’m trying an eU transfer and the vault and checking what actually stays visible on the explorer
