bitget started watching hundreds of millions of dollars leave its wallets.
at first, the number was around $351M.
then it went up to $387.5M.
the weird part was how it happened.
the hacker didn't steal a private key.
they got into a backend system, changed what the transactions looked like and got Bitget's own authorization process to approve them.
one of the biggest pieces of the haul was 103M XRP.
by september 26, around $83M of that XRP had already been moved out of the original wallets.
and today, the trail got even more interesting.
some of the stolen funds were traced from TRON to Ethereum, swapped into BTC and eventually sent through Wasabi CoinJoin.
only around 4 BTC has been linked to that CoinJoin round so far.
most of the money is still sitting in wallets.
which means stealing the money was only the first problem.
now they have to figure out how to move $300M+ without everyone watching the wallets.
