Permission Delegation (XLS-75) is live on the XRP Ledger as of today. An account can now grant another account a narrow set of rights, up to ten specific permissions, so that a compliance desk can authorize holders or a payments team can send scoped transfers, all while the signing keys never leave cold storage. The relationship is recorded on-ledger via a Delegate object. The owner can revoke it at any time, and the delegate is hard-blocked from changing keys, adding further delegates, or expanding its own scope.
This is the on-chain version of classic segregation of duties. In traditional finance a treasury or asset manager already splits roles so that no single person or system both approves and executes. Until now, doing the same thing on XRPL usually meant either sharing the master key (unacceptable) or running multi-signature setups that were operationally heavy. XLS-75 removes that trade-off for the exact workflows regulated issuers care about: trust-line authorizations for KYC’d holders, coupon and redemption payments, and limited operational actions. Ripple’s RLUSD team and other RWA platforms have been testing against it precisely because it lets the operational layer stay online while the controlling keys stay offline.
The security boundary is explicit. Delegates cannot alter the account’s signing configuration or create new delegations. Any attempt outside the granted permissions is rejected by the ledger itself. That is why platforms operating on the ledger are already warning users that a legitimate service will never ask them to sign a DelegateSet transaction; doing so would hand over rights the service does not need. The feature therefore increases operational flexibility without creating a new class of “just sign this once” social-engineering vector, provided users treat DelegateSet the same way they treat any other transaction that modifies account control.
For tokenized treasuries, stablecoin issuers, and funds already issuing on XRPL, the practical result is that daily compliance and payment operations no longer require the master key to be online or shared. The same account that holds the asset can keep its keys in a vault while designated systems perform only the jobs they were given.
