I think the important part is what this says about AI memory demand beyond HBM. As inference gets larger, companies need more working memory close to the CPUs too, and rack power is already becoming a hard limit.

Micron says one 512GB module uses more than 60% less operating power than four 128GB modules. That gives customers a way to pack more memory into the same server without blowing up the power budget.

Near term, this won’t move earnings much because production is still a year away.

Longer term, though, Micron may have a second AI growth engine. That is, selling MUCH MORE DRAM per server even when HBM isn’t the product getting all the attention. https://x.com/MentoviaX/status/2099864003950383318
