Among chains a company launched (not a foundation), only Cronos and HECO did it faster, and both of those were back in the 2021 bull run.
Here's how it went:
🔸 Jul 1: $0 (mainnet day) 🔸 Jul 11: $100M (day 10) 🔸 Aug 13: $500M (day 43) 🔸 Sep 20: $1.00B (day 81) 🔸 Sep 29: $1.02B
Base actually got to $100M faster than Robinhood did, in 4 days. But it took until March 2024 to cross $500M.
@RobinhoodCrypto did that whole stretch in about 6 weeks.
So what's actually in the $1B? @Morpho lending holds $570M. A @SteakhouseFi -curated vault behind Robinhood's "Earn" product holds $506M.
Those two aren't really separate line items, they're basically both Earn. You put in USD, it converts to USDG, goes into the vault, and targets around 7% yield.
That product alone went from $9.5M to $456M by end of August. At its peak that was 68% of the whole chain's TVL.
Tokenized equities are smaller, around $100M+. But they can already be used as collateral or for LPing on the chain, so that number can grow on its own without Robinhood having to launch anything else.
None of this happens without the chain itself being built right: 100ms blocks, gas paid in ETH, no native token, and free gas for the first 90 days.
Imo that's the part that let a savings product feel like a normal brokerage feature instead of a crypto product.
The free gas ended today, and that 7% Earn rate has a subsidy baked into it that's supposed to taper off.
Whether the growth holds up once both of those go away is really the thing to watch.
