Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Reveals Muse AI Agent Will Take a ‘Fee From Transactions’ It Makes

Meta's new AI agent Muse will soon make the company money from transactions made through the platform.

On Wednesday, September 23, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke at the Meta Connect conference and told developers, "We believe that Muse will make you money," per a recording of the event shared on YouTube.

"And we are standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions," Zuckerberg, 42, said.

According to The Street, the fee will come from the merchants, not purchasers.

Also Wednesday, Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang revealed that retailers including Walmart, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, American Eagle and others "are integrating with Muse to enable new shopping experiences for their users."

"To help you plan your travel, we're adding a bunch of new connectors, including Expedia," Wang, 29, announced. "And anyone who grocery shops online is going to love this one: Instacart is coming to Muse."

Muse was launched earlier this month. In a new release, Meta explained that when it comes to purchases, the AI agent "can checkout with Link built by Stripe, and it is the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protections: free coverage for damaged or lost items, price drops, no-fee returns, and a return guarantee on eligible purchases."

"Link's wallet for agents generates a one-time-use card so your real card details stay hidden, allowing you to purchase safely across the internet," the press release read. "Shop Pay is coming soon as another way to pay, along with 1Password support so Muse can use logins a personal ready has."

Muse has a free option but there is a usage limit. For more usage, a paid plan is required.
