They uploaded YouTube tutorials showing people how to build an AI crypto trading bot with Claude.
People followed the tutorial themselves.
Copied the code.
Deployed the smart contract themselves.
Funded it from their own wallets.
And approved every transaction themselves.
Except the “trading bot” had no trading logic.
It was built to send their ETH straight to the scammers.
224 wallets lost 274.6 ETH, worth about $517,000 when it was stolen.
The median victim lost 1 ETH.
Some victims even got an error after getting drained telling them to deposit another 50% to fix the bot.
They literally got people to build, fund and approve their own wallet drainer.

Life is full of surprises, and we should always be willing to learn from them. Even the worst moments can teach us valuable lessons, and we have to learn how to deal with adversity.
I’ll give you a brief summary, I promise 😽😽
This week has been extremely eventful in our crypto/NFT bubble, especially with the launch of @zksnarks_ and everything happening around Zcash. It has been, and still is, the center of attention. We’ve had some heated discussions surrounding the team and the project, with even some major influencers like @zachxbt getting involved in the conversation.
This is where my part of the story comes in.
I was one of the lucky ones selected for the @snarklist during the final moments of the list probably among the last 40.
I already knew about the project and was really hyped about it. A lot of people were talking about it, and I really wanted to be part of it because it reminded me so much of the early days of Ordinals: a new network and everything happening around it.
I know how crazy that era was, and even today, it remains one of the wildest periods in Web3. I absolutely loved experiencing it.
However, that moment of excitement after getting a spot in the project didn’t last more than 24–30 hours.
I made a pretty serious mistake by not linking my X account and my wallet to the website before the claim window closed. I know, I was an idiot, but the timing between being selected and actually seeing the message was really unfortunate for me.
At the time, I was dealing with a health issue involving a family member, taking them to medical appointments and helping with their treatment. Then, the very next day, the auction opened and everything became absolutely crazy.
Anyway, I got hit with some really bad luck.
It brought back the exact same feeling I had a few years ago when I fell for a phishing scam and lost 5 ETH — that same mix of anger and frustration with myself. It kept me up for two nights, constantly thinking about everything that had happened.
The day all of this happened, I honestly couldn’t believe it.
When I realized that I hadn’t connected my wallet and my X account and that I had “lost” the airdrop, I was really devastated. Even with all the support from my friends and my wife, the only place where I could find comfort was in the words of the Bible, and that’s where I turned.

But why am I writing this whole story?
Simply because I know these difficult moments will probably happen again, just as good moments will come too.
What matters is learning how to deal with both sides of life and understanding that we don’t always have control over what happens to us only over how we respond to it
