Warhammer 40k: Auspex Scanning the New Space Marine Models
The drop pod assault has begun, and we have a close-up look at the new Angels of Death.
Codex: Space Marines is up for pre-order alongside some much-needed reinforcements for Space Marine players everywhere. Games Workshop sent us a selection of these new kits, and we wasted no time in getting them built!
Captain on Bike
Back from the abyss of Legends-status, the Space Marine Captain is here as an all-new plastic kit. A simple enough assembly still offers some fun posability for what could be a relatively static model. We built ours with a thunderhammer and officer’s crest, but the kit is full of cool options including a power sword, thunder hammer, multiple heads, with and without helmets, and other cosmetic bits.
Outrider Squad
Another box set that’s been languishing as a monopose, push-fit kit since 2020, the Outrider Squad is finally here as a full, multi-part kit. Crucially, the sergeant can now be built with your choice of several melee weapons, letting you add some much-needed punch to this close support squad. Add the Captain on Bike above, or maybe the Chaplain on Bike, and you’ve got a nasty little fast attack option for your army.
Vanguard Veteran Squad with Jump Packs
Previously available in the Armageddon box set, this full release includes a ton of great options. The all-important combat shields are now part of the kit, along with a variety of power swords and power axes for you to choose from (but they all share the same rules profile as master-crafted power weapons). As well, the sergeant’s relic blade can be swapped for a power fist or thunder hammer if you want to add some even heavier-hitting power to the squad (we all know you do).
Intercessor Squad
The basic Intercessor Squad has been the face of Warhammer 40,000 for almost a decade now and is dangerously close to being able to be referred to as “classics.” This new set is a bit of a facelift for the core marine troop choice and now integrates mixed armor parts from earlier marks, interesting poses, and a variety of head and cosmetic options. Best of all, though, the back-banners of days gone past return! The kit includes enough pieces to outfit a full ten-man Intrecessor squad with their bolt rifles and two grenade launchers.
Kaius Konorius
And in case you were worried that Ultramarines weren’t getting anything just for their Chapter, fear not! Kaius Konorius is here as the first named Space Marine character of 11th edition. Blademaster Konorius is the personal champion of Chapter Master Marneus Calgar, and his all-new plastic kit is extremely cool. Bearing the iconography of the Victrix Honor Guard, Konorius is a beautiful model striking a dramatic but restrained pose.
Most of these kits are gonna end up as Blood Angels for me, but what Chapter are you playing this edition?
