Alpenglow is now running on Solana devnet and testnet, with a target of around 150ms finality compared with roughly 12.8 seconds today.
That speed matters, but what matters to me is what this could add to Solana.
Faster finality can make a real difference for trading, stablecoin payments, tokenized assets and other applications where waiting seconds for confirmation matters. It could also make completely new types of real time applications more practical on chain.
Another part of Alpenglow stands out to me.
Validator votes currently appear as transactions inside blocks. With Alpenglow, that voting moves outside the block transaction stream, while consensus can potentially resolve within one or two voting rounds.
That means transaction counts could change even if actual user activity doesn’t.
So Alpenglow may not just make Solana faster. It could also change how we measure activity on the network.
And then there’s the part $SOL holders will probably care about most.
Could all of these improvements eventually have an impact on the price of $SOL ?
