Explicit Anti-AI Contributor Stance #1012

Description

I think it's time for libdragon to have a blurb somewhere about AI-generated contributions and to request that people who contribute not use AI for libdragon. I know it's not possible to vet against any possible AI usage and I don't want to ask anyone to go on a witch-hunt with PRs. Simply stating that we don't accept AI-written stuff and expecting honesty from contributors should be sufficient. If anyone tries to submit AI-generated contributions anyway we can politely link them to the blurb and leave it at that.

I have added the following blurb to various other of my repos and could add it to a CONTRIBUTING.md which shows up as a nice tab next to the README and license when looking at the project. I tried to make it actionable and offer alternatives to people who get stuck and think they need to use AI by letting them know that it's a collaborative effort and they can spitball with community members instead:

This project does not accept AI or LLM contributions in any form. Any pull request,

issue, documentation, code review or other contribution created in whole or in part

by AI will be rejected. Any prior contribution found to be generated in whole or in

part by AI will be removed. Contributors are asked to understand and take responsibility

for any contributions they submit to this project. If you are unsure or need help

getting started please open an issue describing what you're attempting to do and we

will work together to figure it out. Similarly, if you get stuck or need somebody

to talk through an implementation with you please open a pull request describing

what you want to accomplish and what you're stuck on.

Thoughts? If this seems good then I can just add a CONTRIBUTING.md with the contents. If somebody gets combative you can always tap me in to be the bad guy and tell them no.
