Le livre s'appelle « Histoire d'O ». Son autrice a gardé le secret 40 ans.
Il paraît en juin 1954, chez l'éditeur Jean-Jacques Pauvert. Sur la couverture, un nom que personne ne connaît : Pauline Réage.
C'est le scandale. L'année suivante, la justice poursuit l'éditeur et l'auteur inconnu pour obscénité.
Les poursuites n'aboutissent pas. Mais jusqu'en 1967, il reste interdit de faire de la publicité au livre ou de le vendre aux mineurs.
Derrière ce nom inventé, il y a Anne Desclos, secrétaire générale de la NRF, la grande revue littéraire de Gallimard.
Depuis des années, elle aime Jean Paulhan, le directeur de la revue. Un jour, il lui dit qu'aucune femme n'est capable d'écrire un roman érotique.
Elle l'écrit pour lui, chapitre après chapitre, comme des lettres. Paulhan signe même la préface.
En 1963, elle entre au jury du prix Femina. Personne ne fait le lien.
Elle attend 1994 pour tout reconnaître, dans le magazine américain The New Yorker. Née le 23 septembre 1907 à Rochefort, elle a alors 86 ans. Elle meurt quatre ans plus tard.

I got to present “What The Fi is DeFi” to hundreds of people, and the positive response helped me gain momentum to keep building SheFi. I’ll never forget her taking a chance on me.
She was always so kind, professional, dedicated and inspiring. Always working to build meaningful events.
She had recently joined the SheFi Inner Circle, and her pod had nothing but positive things to say about her. She was excited to finally have joined SheFi in a formal way.
I can’t think of many other people who dedicated so much time to building, organizing and supporting others.
I hope she is remembered for all of the good work she brought into this space.
