Onchain, the range widens. @AptosLabs' @AveryChing explores agents renting out idle GPU capacity, negotiating terms, and settling in stablecoins - among future use cases Aptos can support.

@SonicLabs CEO @MattVisser conservation with @FraxForce touched on the petrodollar and the decades ahead, with a focus on currency choice, multiple stablecoin issuers, and interoperability.

He believes people should have the flexibility to choose the currency they use and manage their exposure as economic conditions change.

Drawing on his work with Andre on Fixed Forex, he recalled demand for stablecoins denominated in currencies beyond the dollar, giving users alternatives for hedging their dollar exposure.

That openness to alternatives comes with caution about predicting the end of dollar dominance.

When the host suggested the dollar might be in the final quarter of its dominance, he warned against placing ourselves too confidently on a historical timeline. These transitions can extend beyond an individual lifetime.

In his view, infrastructure should be able to accommodate several possible outcomes.

The same practical thinking shaped his comments on ETH.

He recognizes its economic value but sees volatility as a significant drawback for settlement. A recipient could receive an agreed payment and see its value fall substantially before using it.

National currencies also fluctuate against one another. His example of converting South African rand into dollars illustrated how an apparently sensible decision can produce a different outcome as exchange rates change.

The discussion highlighted how currency exposure depends on the needs and obligations of the person or business holding it.

For Sonic’s immediate needs, he sees the dollar as the practical priority.

$USSD fits that focus on dollar-denominated settlement, while his broader preference is for infrastructure that remains flexible enough to support other currencies as demand develops.

The position is to serve the market that exists today while preserving the ability to adapt as it changes.
