Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Every mode is free and there are no ads. The coffee button in the footer is there if you want to support the project.

Do I need an account?

Not to play the computer: open Play the computer and move. Online games, chat and ratings need an account with a verified email.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Phones get a lighter hall with fewer effects, so the pieces still move smoothly. Tap a piece, then tap its square.

Which engine plays against me?

Stockfish 19, running inside your browser at 8 levels from Novice to Master. Stockfish is GPL-3.0 software; the link to its source is in the settings menu.

Can I take a move back?

Against the computer, yes: switch on training mode when you start a new game and an Undo button appears in the game panel. Online games have no undo.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes. Open a shared board and both sides move from the same screen, one after the other.

Can I speed up the fights?

Yes. The settings menu has 1×, 2× and Instant speeds, and switches for the sound and for the camera zoom on captures.

How do ratings work?

Each time control has its own Glicko-2 rating, starting at 1500. The leaderboard lists players with at least 10 rated games at that time control, a settled rating and a game in the last 30 days.

What happens to chat messages?

In-game chat is deleted 30 days after the game ends and private messages after 365 days. A reported message is kept for the moderator until the report is closed and then removed with the rest.

Can I watch a game?

Yes. Anyone with the link to an online game can watch it live, every capture included.
