2026: The Year Galleries Realised the Need to Flag or Cull Slop Images
About a week ago we wrote about "publicdomainpictures" flagging pictures and redoing the site, this time with slop properly flagged to help people avoid it (we strongly doubt anyone deliberately insists on only slop images and no real, original images). This was a much-needed improvement, as the site ("publicdomainpictures") was drowning in slop and each year it was getting worse to the point where for some search phrases over 90% of the presented results were slop.
Searching for common phrases (e.g. “Christmas”), I'm not too sure if having flagged slop they already use the classification to derank fakes. I hope they do. They should do. Delisting is riskier as there may be punishment over false positives (wrong classification).
Society needs to shun slopfarms, people who use LLM slop (for anything at all), companies that use bots (which they dub "agents"), and so-called 'coders' who volley garbage into project and software hubs (revisit Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, and Part 6 of "Linux Kernel Becoming a Slopfest"). █
