ASUS ROG gets LG Display’s new 24.5-inch 720Hz OLED panel
LG Display has started mass production of its new 24.5-inch OLED gaming panel capable of running at 720Hz at its native 1920×1080 resolution. The panel also has a claimed 0.02 ms response time and is aimed primarily at esports monitors. LG Display calls it the first OLED panel developed specifically for this market.
According to LG Display, the company developed a new driving algorithm capable of maintaining the 720Hz refresh rate at Full HD resolution. In other words, the panel does not rely on a reduced-resolution mode to reach its maximum refresh rate (so no 720p ‘HD-Ready’ mode here).
ASUS ROG gets the first 720Hz panel
The first monitor using the new panel is the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace. ASUS announced the 24.5-inch model at Gamescom alongside three other compact ROG OLED displays. The PG259QWS Ace uses a Tandem WOLED panel with a TrueBlack Glossy coating and supports 720Hz at 1920×1080.
The rest of ASUS’s 24.5-inch OLED lineup includes the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace with a 540Hz Tandem WOLED panel. The ROG Strix OLED XG259QDPG Ace and XG259QDNS Ace instead use RGB Stripe QD-OLED panels running at 560Hz and 360Hz respectively. ASUS lists 0.02 ms response times for its Tandem WOLED models.
720Hz finally without dropping below Full HD
ASUS already offers 27-inch Tandem OLED monitors capable of reaching 720Hz, including the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W and PG27AQWP-G Edition 20. Those displays run at up to 540Hz at their native QHD resolution before switching to a lower-resolution HD mode for 720Hz. The new 24.5-inch panel instead delivers 720Hz across its native Full HD resolution.
LG Display says the PG259QWS Ace has also been selected as the official monitor for the PGL CS2 Major Singapore 2026. With panel mass production now underway, the company is preparing to expand OLED further into the 24-inch esports segment, which until recently has been dominated by high-refresh-rate LCD monitors.
